About Us
Building A Deep
Understanding With Our Clients
While ensuring candidates have the requisite skills and experiences to tackle challenges, its is often the lack of alignment between the organisation and the individuals motivations and aspirations that can derail or stymie success.
Our consultants seek to understand these subtle nuances and customise an approach to ensure alignment of all parties, even if that means a more complex and extended process.
Case studies
Client Engagements
Listed Consumer Goods: CEO Search
- $200m-$300m revenue
- Geographically dispersed workforce
- Domestic and international clients
- Manufacturing, marketing and distribution operations
background
The long-standing organisation has well established Australian operations and represents a number of iconic brands in the Australian market. The business had, however, been under share price and performance pressure for some time. When the incumbent CEO resigned, the Chair sought a thorough approach, but also an efficient process and timeframe due to the market sensitivity.
the challenge
The new CEO would work with the board in setting a new strategy for the business, while also turning around the underperformance of the business and rebuilding investor confidence. The ideal candidates would therefore have sector knowledge but critically, a balance of strategic and commercial/turnaround skills, but also turnaround/change management experience and stakeholder skills at an appropriate leadership level.
the approach
Leveraging a detailed briefing from the Board, a very detailed brief set the scene for a focused search strategy and subsequent execution. A targeted market mapping exercise led to the timely identification of high potential candidates, with only qualified candidates (interested, affordable, right skills) then presented to the Board.
the outcome
The Board were pleased to appoint the successful candidate within three months.
Major Transport Company: Chair
- ASX Listed
- Australian, Singapore & UK Based Operations
- Strong Growth Trajectory
background
With the recent retirement of the CEO and continued strong growth aspirations, there was a need to appoint a seasoned Chair with a strong logistics and transport background who could continue to drive the growth of the company, both locally and internationally.
the challenge
To ensure that investment markets were not alarmed by the transition of the CEO and Chair in relatively short succession.
the approach
Working with the Board Nominations Committee we undertook a comprehensive global mapping, initially on an undisclosed basis, to identify prospective candidates.
the outcome
The new Chair joined the Board with key shareholders reacting positively to the appointment.
Major industry superannuation fund: Chief Investment Officer
- Public Offer Fund
- 1 Million+ Members
- Mix Of Direct And Fund Of Fund Investing
- 40+ Investment Professionals
background
The new approach came with a need for a new CIO who would have the mandate to design, build, implement and manage the new investment strategy and supporting operating model for the fund, also leading the investment team through what would be significant change to how they have operated historically.
the challenge
We therefore recommended and agreed to an exploratory and iterative interview approach with more interviewees than is usual to enable thinking on the optimal candidate to settle during the interview process.
the approach
Leveraging a detailed briefing from various client stakeholders we formed a detailed view of what was needed to be successful in the role.
the outcome
The successful candidate joined the fund in 2020 with all parties comfortable with the direction that the appointment represented.
Mutual Bank: Chair
- National Distribution
- 400K+ Members
- Strong Growth Agenda
- Core System Replacement
background
With the retirement of the long serving Chair there was a need to identify and appoint an experience, seasoned financial services executive with a track record of driving growth through digital channels while undertaking a significant transformation agenda involving the replacement of the core banking platform.
the challenge
The brief required not only the identification of an appropriately qualified individual with the requisite governance, transformation and growth experience, but also an understanding of the nuances of a member based organisation.
the approach
Detailed discussions held with the Board to not only understand the key business challenges, but also the culture of the organisation and the intricacies of the election process of a member appointed director to develop an approach to position the opportunity to engage high quality talent.
the outcome
Appointment of a Chair with requisite skills and strong alignment to the values of a member based organisation.
